12 Hour Paediatric First Aid Courses
12 Hour Paediatric First Aid course - meets the criteria set out in the Early
Years Foundation Stage framework.
This class is designed for workers caring for children. The training leads to a certificate which is required for registration on the Early Years Register. The certificate must be renewed every three years in order to remain registered on the Early Years Register.
We run classes from our premises in central London for individuals who wish to do this training and we can also arrange for a trainer to visit your premises when you have several staff to train together.
As with all our classes your instructor will be a Paediatric Nurse with experience in Accident and Emergency. In addition, all instructors on the 12 hour Pediatric course also deliver first aid training through Health and Safety Executive (HSE) training organisations.
The course is consistent with the Practice Guidance for the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Over 12 hours it covers the following areas:
Administration and planning:
• Planning for first aid emergencies
• Dealing with emergencies
• Recording accidents and incidents
• Appropriate contents for a first aid kit
Education:
• Resuscitation procedures appropriate to the age of children being cared for
• Recognising and responding appropriately to:
- anaphylactic shock
- electric shock
- bleeding
- burns and scalds
- choking
- suspected fractures
- head, neck and back injuries
- poisoning
- foreign bodies in eyes, ears and noses
- eye injuries
- bites and stings
- the effects of extreme heat and cold
- febrile convulsions
• Recognising and responding appropriately to the emergency needs of children with chronic medical conditions, including epilepsy, asthma, sickle cell anaemia and diabetes.
• Recognising and responding appropriately to meningitis and other serious sudden illnesses
First Aid Courses for Individuals
The cost for a single place on a class is £145. This includes VAT, training materials and certificate. There is a maximum of 12 people in a class so that each person will receive the care and attention that The Parent Company is known for in its small private classes.

First Aid Courses for Organisations
We can arrange for one of our trainers to visit your premises to teach the full 12 hour curriculum for up to 12 people.

For organisations such as schools and nurseries who are required to register under the Early Years Scheme, OFSTED require that: "At least one person who has a current paediatric first aid certificate is on the premises at all times when children are present." Also: "There must also be at least one person on outings who has a current paediatric first aid certificate."
This means that NOT ALL staff need to be First Aid trained on the Pediatric 12 hour course and therefore our shorter classes may be more suitable for most staff as long as they are not the designated individual. The content is similar except for the section on administration, and it can be taught in one day.
